Joumaa’s intervention in the SIGHTINGS cube, POWER. FORWARD. REVERSE. REWIND., resituates archival complicity within the historical, material, and lived realities of the 1969 Sir George Williams Affair. By placing historical computing equipment, photographs, and recordings of students’ and protesters’ speeches together, she draws attention to the cultural and political imaginaries inscribed in, and amplified by, the materials themselves, while foregrounding the concrete ramifications of the event as both a moment of protest and repression.
